It’s now two weeks into the New Year. How’s your New Year’s resolutions going? One study reports that only one in three of us who make New Year’s resolutions keep them. Being simple is key—maybe work on just one or two. Here’s how to increase your chances of success in whatever new habits you want to achieve in the new year. Try doing it for one-month straight. That’s what I recommend to those who want to learn how to meditate or do Guided Imagery. There’s something in the brain that rewires after 30 days—called the Reticular Activating System. Best-selling Author Jack Canfield in “Success Principles” talks about a study done by NASA. NASA made astronauts in training wear a set of glasses that turned the world upside down. They were told to wear these glasses for 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. What they found surprised them. After 21-to-30 days, the astronauts that wore these glasses continuously suddenly had a switch. Apparently their brains flipped their world back around right side up. They also found that if anyone removed the glasses before this 21-to-30-day interval, they would have to start completely over and go through another 21-to-30-day interval to have this phenomena occur. Guided Imagery and Meditation are most effective at rewiring the brain, when they are practiced for at least 30 days. Even if you have fallen off your New Year’s promise, remember this study. Try it again for another 30 days straight!
